Why Pulkit Sharma, Richa Chadha, Pankaj Tripathi’s Fukrey 3 did better than Vivek Agnihotri’s The Vaccine War

After the success of The Kashmir Files at the box office, we were expecting that Vivek Agnihotri’s The Vaccine War will do equally well, but shockingly that didn’t happen.  ‘The Vaccine War’, starring Nana Patekar and Pallavi Joshi in the lead roles, has had a terrible run at the box office. On September 28, ‘Fukrey 3‘ and ‘The Vaccine War‘ clashed at the box office. Both the films were released on the same date.

The Vaccine War failed to reach the audience

It was too much of a scientific film for the masses. And probably the one-sided narrative didn’t go down well with the audiences. Trade analysts believe that Agnihotri has overdone his propagandist style of filmmaking.

So, what went wrong with The Vaccine War? According to agency reports, unlike ‘The Kashmir File’, which was centred around an emotive and divisive issue bound to draw crowds to the cinemas (as did ‘The Kerala Story’ this year), ‘The Vaccine War’ doesn’t have an ‘enemy’ who can get audiences charged up.

Investigative journalists asking uncomfortable questions about a vaccine doesn’t match up to the drawing power of ‘evil’ JNU professors and jihadi terrorists. Agnihotri’s films require an ‘exciting’ enemy, which ‘The Vaccine War’ doesn’t have; moreover, opinion on Covaxin is divided, unlike on the issue of Kashmir.

The Vaccine War is no doubt a very scientific and bold movie by Vivek Agnihotri which is made with near to accurate facts and figures. It is informative which tells the tales of the real heroes, the scientists who made the Covaxin. There were a lot of things we were not aware of, especially the efforts made by our scientists to make the first Indigenous COVID-19 Vaccine. The film begins with the lockdown to the creation of the first Indigenous vaccine. The entire film has been shown in 12 chapters, starting from the lockdown to the making of the vaccine. But somewhere the narrative got bit too one-sided.

Success of Richa Chadha, Pankaj Tripathi starrer Fukrey 3

On the other hand, Richa Chadha, Pankaj Tripathi starrer Fukrey 3 stays strong at the box-office. Fukrey 3 is not just a typical Bollywood comedy film. It was a complete package with witty dialogues and most importantly had a social message. Probably that’s what attracted the audiences to the film.

The first two parts of Fukrey 3 was also a huge success at the box-office. And the lovers of Fukrey in fact waited for seven years to see them back on the big screen. The comedy-riot is directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani and has been creating enough buzz among cine buffs. Fans who have watched the film have given it a star rating already and are in love with Hunny-Choocha’s chemistry.

The whole cast came back with a bang. We all know that Mrighdeep Singh Lamba is the king of comedy. The film was to release in theatres on September 7, 2023. It was later pushed for release on December 1, 2023, but changed its release date to September 28, after Prabhas’ Salaar‘ and Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki’ booked the date for their films’ release.
