Kalpana Iyer was once a flourishing name of the industry, who was the first runner-up at Miss India in 1978, and starred with Mithun Chakraborty in the 1982 blockbuster Disco Dancer, touted to be India’s first 100-crore blockbuster. She was also seen with Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan in Anjaam and Hum Saath Saath Hain.

Back in the days in an interview, she said, “I was always misunderstood, you know, as the ‘it-girl’ personifying glamour and oomph. A Miss India, a model, an actress. Everyone assumed I was bold but I was actually very simple… God-fearing, always concerned about ruffling the feathers of my conservative Tam Bram family who were quiet and simple, and into Carnatic music… telling too many white lies to protect too many people.”

She has quit the industry and now managing a restaurant in Dubai called The Moghul Room.

Talking of Disco Dancer, the health condition of veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty has improved and he is “quite stable”, an official said on Sunday.

“He is recuperating well, is fully conscious, well-oriented, active, and has consumed a soft diet. He will undergo certain investigations before his discharge,” the official of the medical facility said.

The popular actor has already undergone an MRI, along with other medical tests at the hospital.
