Prime Video’s Puppy Love Movie Review: Lucy Hale and Grant Gustin show how pets can be a good mental therapy

Puppy Love is a great movie to watch on Valentine’s Day. The film shows how to opposites meet and their meeting points are their dogs. There are two things common about the lead characters, one they both have puppies whom they have adopted and the second one is they both are loners. But both have a different way of dealing with their loneliness.

Both are socially awkward, but strong headed.  One is messy and the other one is a cleanliness freak to an extent that he keeps cleaning the benches in the park before sitting on it. Directed by Nick Fabiano and Richard Alan Reid, the film portrays Max Stevenson (Grant Gustin) as a man who can have a nervous breakdown any moment. He is a nerd and just not a people’s person. He loves to keep his home spic and span and everything is in order. Before stepping into the house, he leaves his shoes at the door and insists that the guests should do the same. Not a people’s person, Max Stevenson’s (Grant Gustin) therapist suggest that he must adopt a dog. That’s how Chloe comes to his life and they have great time together giving each other company. Though he is happy, but there is still a hint of loneliness in his life.

But where does Puppy Love fail? I believe that these stories have been done to death. There was no newness in it. I was hoping for more vulnerability in the characters, more drama and more layers which didn’t happen. The story was just too predictable. Again, it can be called a fun one-time watch. And most importantly the love between the two Max Stevenson (Grant Gustin) and Nicole (Lucy Hale) looks more like an arrangement, an arranged love you can call it which lacks the right quantity of passion!
