2 Dead, Several Injured After Explosion At Fire Extinguisher Factory In Gurugram

Gurugram: At least two persons were killed and four others sustained severe injuries following a massive explosion at a fire extinguisher manufacturing factory in Gurugram’s Daultabad industrial area, police said on Saturday. As per Fire department officials, they had pulled out two bodies from the debris and taken four injured people to the hospital. The officials informed that over 25 fire tenders were pressed into action to control the furious flames.

Police said that over 12 factories, located near the fire extinguisher factory, were also gutted in the explosion.

Ramesh Kumar, the officer in charge at Bhim Nagar fire station, reported that they received a distress call about a fire in a factory around the stroke of midnight at 12:36 am. The factory was involved in the manufacturing of fire extinguisher balls embedded with mini explosive devices. These devices were designed to trigger at specific temperatures. It is believed that a minor fire, possibly due to an electrical short circuit, ignited these fire balls causing them to explode one after the other. The fire quickly intensified and engulfed the stocked raw materials within the factory. This led to a massive explosion and the flames spread to adjoining factories.

Kumar shared that the fire rapidly spread after breaking out because it ended up igniting the raw materials stored in the factory. Consequently, this led to a massive explosion that caused the flames to engulf the surrounding factories as well.

Further details are awaited.
