Akshay Kumar's 'OMG 2': Director Amit Rai on CBFC's 'double standard', film to release with censored version on OTT

Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam-led OMG 2 managed to create quite a splash at the box office. However, before reaching the cinema halls on 11 August this year, the project had to go through 27 cuts suggested by CBFC.

During a previous interaction with Hindustan Times, the director of the movie, Amit Rai stated that they plan to release the uncensored version of the film on the OTT platform. But now, the makers seemed to have change their minds. The filmmaker recently revealed that the theatrical version of OMG 2 will only be released on the OTT as well.

Amit Rai added that according to him, the OTT platform would not go against the censor board. Sharing the possible reason why the uncensored version of the movie will not be reaching the OTT, the director said that there might be a standard policy in place about the content shown on the various OTT platforms. “I don’t know what apprehensions they (OTT platforms) have. They don’t even know what discussions happened inside about the film. Censorship is the country’s law, and the CBFC passes a film on their basis, deciding to show it to the country’s citizens,” Rai said.

For the unversed, one of the scenes removed from OMG 2 showed a condom ad on a truck. Talking about the same, Amit Rai revealed although they removed the scene from his film, when he went to see Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, it had a condom ad in which Kartik Aaryan can be seen asking a girl about her preferred flavour. Amit Rai added that he does not have anything against other films, but Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani also included several kissing scenes and that even kids have watched the Karan Johar directorial.

At last, Amit Rai said that they tried their best but they do not have the strength to take the film to more and more people.

Financed by Cape of Good Films in collaboration with Viacom18 Studios and Wakaoo Films, OMG 2 also saw Pavan Malhotra, Govind Namdev, Arun Govil, Brijendra Kala, Aarush Varma, Geeta Agrawal and Hemant Kumar Choudhary in supporting roles.

A sequel to the 2021 release OMG, OMG 2 talks about a man’s legal fight against the education system in the country with the help of the messenger of Lord Shiva.
