Emraan is closely connected to Bhatt family. Acclaimed producers and filmmakers Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt are his uncles. He is the cousin of Pooja Bhatt, Alia Bhatt, Shaheen Bhatt, and Rahul Bhatt. Director Mohit Suri, with whom Emraan has collaborated in different films, is his cousin.

Ahead of turning into an actor, Emraan become an assistant director on the sets of Raaz. He made his acting debut in 2003 with Vikram Bhatt’s Footpath (2003). The film did average on the box office. On the opposite hand, he become recognised with Anurag Basu’s Murder co-starring Mallika Sherawat and Ashmit Patel. The film become a perfect hit and did extremely well on the box office.
