Animal: Here are some lessons the success of Ranbir Kapoor's film can teach Bollywood

The trailer and teaser did the trick for Animal, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor, and Rashmika Mandanna. It’s directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga who also made Kabir Singh and Arjun Reddy.

This family-cum-revenge drama is going bonkers and will enter the 400-crore club mostly by today. It’s not exactly a game-changer but it can teach Bollywood certain things:

Thicker the blood, bigger the box-office

Nothing smells like blood it seems for our hyper heroes and gratified audiences. It all began in the post-pandemic era with hits like Sooryavanshi, Pushpa, KGF: Chapter 2, Pathaan, Jawan, Gadar 2, and now Animal. This is the most violent title of them all, with blood pouring every next minute and the man behind the camera smiling or maybe guffawing at grown-up men mauling the hell out of each other’s bodies.

Did anyone say ‘What? 3 hours?’

Some of the most successful films in the last decade are all nearly three hour long films, but again, Animal takes the cake and the cherry by going miles ahead and ending at 203 minutes. But it seems length only happens to be an issue prior to the release, not after. Filmmakers shouldn’t be bogged down by social media pressure, and should genuinely make the films they believe in.

Ranbir Kapoor– The return of the Superstar

Up until Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in 2013, Ranbir Kapoor was the next Superstar of India till his choices began to fail. With Animal, he seems to have reclaimed his lost glory.

Heated debates lead to blazing numbers

Animal isn’t the first time a film has been severely scrutinized on social media. Kabir Singh, The Kerala Story, The Kashmir Files, all went through polarizing responses that only enticed the audiences further. They may not be flawless, reek of deeply problematic issues too, but who cares when the numbers are doing all the talking.

Less is more

This means less promotions lead to more curiosity. Team Animal barely gave interviews or went to reality shows to praise contestants. The film did all the talking for itself and the result is for everyone to see.
