Animal: Sandeep Reddy Vanga reacts to Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘big pelvis’ line, says it is a ‘compliment’
Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal has turned out to be a monstrous blockbuster at the box office. However, the film has garnered polarising views due to showcasing toxic masculinity in the action-drama. There were many problematic lines in the movie including one where Ranbir’s character tells Rashmika Mandanna aka Gitanjali that she has got a ‘big pelvis’ and can accommodate healthy babies.
Now, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has explained the idea behind this line and called it a compliment. “I thought that was a compliment. I never thought…how you found it ugly,” he said while talking to Galatta Plus.
He added, “I felt like she is walking away, he knew that if he let her go without saying one more line, he knew that she was gone. So how should I say that I am seeing my future with you? I want to marry you. I thought in these situations boys behave very differently sometimes. Your intention is something else but you end up saying something else. So, he didn’t know what to say. This was the brief given to Ranbir also. Suddenly he doesn’t know what to say and he says Gitanjali got a big pelvis. He is giving a reason that I’m seeing a future with you that we’ll get married and have babies.”
Talking about Animal, the film has entered the Rs 500 crore club and became the 4th Bollywood film to achieve this feat after Pathaan, Jawan and Gadar 2. The film also features Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Triptii Dimri, Suresh Oberoi, Prem Chopra and others in prominent roles. Since Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki and Prabhas’ Salaar are arriving this week at the box office, Animal will face a solid screen crunch at the box office.
