New Delhi: In a fresh political conflict, the Bharatiya Janata Birthday party has come down heavily on Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi,  saying the Congress leader is making an attempt to create a “dangerous narrative” by speaking on “sensitive issues” abroad.

Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri told a press conference on the BJP headquarters here that Gandhi’s remarks were “sinister” in nature as he tried to spread falsehood a range the members of the Sikh community living abroad to “eke out a living” and do now not have tons reference to India.

“I condemn around the globe the strongest terms the statement he has made about Sikhs now not being in a position to wear turbans and kadas,” the BJP leader from the Sikh community said.

Hardeep Singh Puri refers to 1984 anti-Sikh riots

Referring to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots that came about at some stage in the Congress’s rule, Puri said, “If there has been one time in our history when as a community now we have felt anxiety, a style of insecurity and existential threat, it has been the times when Rahul Gandhi’s family has been around the globe the seats of power.”

“In 1984, a pogrom was carried out against Sikh community. As many as 3,000 innocent people were killed. People were dragged out of their homes, tyres were put around them and burnt alive,” he said.

Addressing a gathering of a few hundred Indian Americans in Herndon, a Virginia suburb of Washington DC, on Monday, Gandhi accused the RSS of taking into account some religions, languages and communities of being inferior to others and said the fight in India is ready this and now not about politics.

“First and foremost, you prefer to take into accout what the fight is ready. The fight is now not about politics. That is superficial,” Gandhi said as he asked one in the total Sikh attendees around the globe the front rows to present his name. What's your name, brother with the turban,” he asked.

“The fight is ready whether a Sikh is going to be allowed to wear his turban in India or a kada in India. Or he, as a Sikh, is going on the style to head to Gurdwara. That’s what the fight is ready. And now not only for him, for all religions,” said Gandhi, who's on a four-day consult with to the US, which began Saturday.

Hitting out on the Congress leader, Puri said Gandhi, of late, has been making statements on sensitive issues, which “involve our national identity, team spirit, the strength of our team spirit and diversity”. “I think he's making an attempt to set a new kind of narrative which I think is a perilous narrative,” he said.

“I think that's way more sinister because Rahul Gandhi was attempting to spread a false narrative while speaking in front of those, who belong to my community and are attempting to eke out a living around the globe the US with labor and honesty. Because they do now not have tons reference to the u.s. (India),” he added.
