Brazil Supreme Court Unfreezes Elon Musk’s X, Starlink Bank Accounts After USD 3 Million Transfer

Brasilia: The Brazil Supreme Court on Friday unfroze the bank accounts of Elon Musk’s satellite cyber web company, Starlink, and the social media platform, X, after directing the transfer of over USD three million in outstanding fines, Al Jazeera reported. Notably, the Brazilian government collected 11 million Brazilian reais (USD 1.9 million) from a Starlink account and seven.2 million Brazilian reais (USD 1.three million) from an X bank account to pay the penalty ordered by the nation’s Supreme Court.

“After the payment of the total amount that became owed, Justice [de Moraes] thought about there became no have to maintain the bank accounts frozen and ordered the immediate unfreezing of bank accounts/financial assets,” the statement said.

Previously, De Moraes took the contentious decision to outlaw X in Brazil when Elon Musk, the corporate’s billionaire owner, disobeyed court orders to take down accounts that were allegedly disseminating false information.

In an identical fashion, the social media network missed a legally mandated cut-off date to designate a legal representation in Brazil, reported Al Jazeera.

Musk is the owner of both Starlink and X, and Starlink personnel allegedly stated their cyber web service will now no longer abide by the limitation at first following the court’s order on X.

Musk referred to de Moraes as an “evil dictator” after the court decided to shut X.

Musk, in his usual figuring out tone, empathized with those offering toughen to Brazil’s former conservative president, Jair Bolsonaro. As noted by Al Jazeera, Bolsonaro, who lost the October 2022 elections, had fueled unsubstantiated narratives in regards to the election results. Subsequent to his defeat, on January Eight, 2023, the Brazilian legislature became invaded by Bolsonaro’s supporters, who were crying out for a military takeover to overturn the election outcome. The aftermath of those events sees Bolsonaro banned from public service until the year 2030. Amidst these challenges, he had a face-off with Justice de Moraes over inquiries into his actions, a situation that mirrors Musk’s own predicaments.
