BRICS could promote political settlement in Gaza conflict: Putin

Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, urged regional governments and the BRICS alliance to join forces in the pursuit of a diplomatic resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian problem on Tuesday.

During a virtual BRICS meeting, Putin blamed the Middle East issue on U.S. diplomacy’s failure in the region in broadcast remarks.

“We want the international world to work together to defuse the situation, implement a truce, and resolve the Palestinian-Israeli problem through diplomacy. Additionally, the region’s nations and the BRICS states may be crucial to this effort, according to Putin.

He didn’t go into detail on how such an endeavour might be set up.

South Africa, Brazil, Russia, India, and China make up the BRICS alliance. August saw an agreement to grow it to include members from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, Argentina, and the United Arab Emirates.

According to experts on Russian and Western policy, Putin is attempting to leverage the Gaza situation for geopolitical gain as part of his plan to win over supporters in developing nations and establish what he refers to as a “new world order” in opposition to US domination.

He has frequently criticised US policies, called on Israel to exercise moderation, and shown compassion for the Palestinian people in past remarks.

He warned Israel last month against besieging Gaza in the same manner that Nazi Germany had besieged Leningrad during World War Two, stating that an invasion by ground forces was necessary.
