England vs South Africa LIVE: South Africa defeated England by 229 runs in their 2023 World Cup match in Mumbai on Saturday to clinch their third win of the tournament.

A century from Heinrich Klaasen and fifties from Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen and Marco Jansen led South Africa to 399/7 after being put into bat.

In reply, barring Gus Atkinson (35) and Mark Wood (43*), none of the other batters could capitalise as England were skittled out for 170 in 22 overs.

Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the contest with illness and Aiden Markram has stepped in to fill the leadership duties. In team news, Ben Stokes has returned with David Willey and Gus Atkinson also in the lineup. Atkinson is making his World Cup debut. Over on the other side, Reeza Hendricks has come in as a replacement for Bavuma.

England XI: Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler(w/c), David Willey, Adil Rashid, Gus Atkinson, Mark Wood, Reece Topley

South Africa XI: Quinton de Kock(w), Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram(c), Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Gerald Coetzee, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi

Preview: England and South Africa were delivered brutal and confidence-hurting blows in their last outing at the Cricket World Cup in India. England were beaten by Afghanistan while South Africa were humbled by Netherlands to significantly hurt their campaigns and morale. Both would be desperate to arrest that with a win when they meet at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

England will be boosted by the return of Ben Stokes who picked up a hip injury before the tournament got underway. For South Africa, it would be important to maintain their lineup and hope that the already injury-affected side clicks once again – just the way it did against Sri Lanka and Australia.
