World Cup 2023: Suryakumar injures wrist during net session, Kishan stung by honeybee ahead of India vs New Zealand

India batter Suryakumar Yadav was on Saturday hit on his right hand’s wrist while training during a nets session ahead of the ODI World Cup clash against New Zealand in Dharamsala.

However, that was not the only setback that India suffered on Saturday as Ishan Kishan got bit by a honeybee on his head, News18 CricketNext reported.

Ahead of the crunch contest, India will already miss Hardik Pandya after the all-rounder sustained an ankle injury during their World Cup match against Bangladesh recently.

According to the report, SKY was facing throwdown specialist Raghu Raghavendra at the nets when he suffered the blow to his wrist. That meant that Suryakumar was unable to bat again.

SKY eventually received treatment and walked off the field with a protection on his wrist.

Rahul Dravid, India head coach, had discussed the possibility of Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan making the playing XI against New Zealand.

“I mean, it is nice to have Ishan. And like you said, rightly, he’s been playing well. He’s a left-hander. But again, Surya has also come into some great form against Australia, as we saw. Played a couple of fantastic innings. Absolutely fantastic player against spin, as we know. Left arm spin or off spin, or any kind of spin, for that matter,” Dravid had said during the press conference on Saturday.

SKY’s wrist injury would certainly be a major blow for the Men in Blue, given that he was the first choice to replace Hardik in the playing XI after the latter got injured.

Both New Zealand and India are placed first and second in the World Cup standings respectively with eight points each, and only NRR separating the two sides.

The Men in Blue began their campaign with a six-wicket win over Australia before thumping Afghanistan by eight wickets. The hosts then went onto maintain their 100 percent record against Pakistan in World Cups, before beating Bangladesh by seven wickets.
