Centre likely to subsidise LPG prices

Domestic LPG prices could be reduced by Rs 200 per cylinder. The Cabinet approved an additional subsidy of Rs. 200 for Ujjawala customers.

The Ujjawala customers were already getting a Rs. 200 subsidy per cylinder. Overall subsidy on domestic LPG cylinders increased to Rs. 400 per cylinder.  More than 9 crore Ujjawala customers are expected to benefit from this subsidy.

The G20 presidency of India has been celebrated in a south Delhi municipal park with a big themed emblem of the powerful organisation and flags of member states put atop 20 ornate pillars installed in its beautiful grounds.

The park is located in Greater Kailash and the surrounding region. MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj said heads of state and other delegates attending the G20 Summit next month should remember the city and its people's hospitality.

The G20 Leaders Summit is scheduled to take place from September 9 to September 10, and many significant highways and other sites in the city have been cleaned and beautified in preparation for the huge event, which will be held in the newly-built international conference centre at Pragati Maidan.

SC refuses to interfere with Punjab and Haryana HC order staying WFI polls

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court declined to intervene in the Punjab and Haryana High Court's judgement delaying the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) elections.

A panel of Justices Abhay S Oka and Pankaj Mithal directed the petitioner, the Andhra Pradesh Amateur Wrestling Association, to file its objections with the high court.

“Why should we entertain this? You go to the high court instead of applying for vacating the interim stay, the petitioner has chosen to approach the Supreme Court. We, therefore, decline to entertain this special leave petition,” the bench said.

The Supreme Court was considering an appeal from the Andhra Pradesh Amateur Wrestling Association against the high court's August 11 judgement.

In the midst of the dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu over Cauvery water, Karnataka Minister MB Patil stated that it is extremely impossible for Karnataka to provide water to Tamil Nadu for fifteen days.

“Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) has directed us to give 5,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu for fifteen days. We do not have water, it’s an order that is very difficult for us to implement so we have taken the legal route. We want a distressed formula on this long pending issue. A formula which is based on scientific and practical approach and unless and until there is a formula, it will be an embarrassment situation for all of us,” MB Patil told ANI.

Court issues notice to Delhi police on plea of Sharjeel Imam seeking bail in sedition case

A Delhi court has issued a notice to Delhi police in response to Sharjeel Imam's request for statutory release in the 2020 sedition case. The procedures relating to the charge of sedition are claimed to be stopped, and the maximum sentence in offences under UAPA is seven years. He has been in detention since January 2020, which is half of the maximum penalty under UAPA.

It is argued that the applicant has been in custody since 28.01.2020 in this case and has served 3 years and more than 6 months of incarceration, with incarceration extending up to one-half of the maximum period of imprisonment specified by law for the relevant offence.

Officials stated on Tuesday that a special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Patna sentenced key suspects in Bihar's 'fake Indian currency notes' case to seven years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) and fined them in two separate cases.

Abi Mohammad Ansari, from Nepal's Bara district, was convicted and sentenced to 7 years in prison and Rs 5000 under Section 120B of the IPC, with a comparable sentence and fine being imposed under Sections 489B and 489C of the IPC and Sections 16, 18, and 20 of the UA(P) Act. "The sentences will run concurrently," NIA said.
