Google Releases Video of Its Groundbreaking New Phone That Could Shake Up The Industry

This is a direct target at a market Samsung has controlled over the last few years.

It looks like Google  (GOOGL) - Get Free Report will officially be entering the world of foldable smartphones.

The tech giant released an 8-second teaser video of its first foldable phone called the Pixel Fold, which is set to be revealed during Google’s I/O event on May 10.

The Pixel Fold does seem to have the same overall design language as its non-folding counterpart, sans the folding. The phone folds inward similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series, which together with the Galaxy Z Flip, has dominated the foldable smartphone market.

But Google’s entry adds another major player to the foldable market, especially as the tech company has invested more into its smartphone hardware division since the release of the Pixel 6 in October 2021.

The Pixel Fold is expected to start at over $1,700 which would make it the most expensive phone in Google’s lineup, according to a report by CNBC. That would put it around the price range of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 which is at $1,799.

The specs of Google’s folding device have yet to be revealed, though it’s expected to be powered by Google’s Tensor G2 chip, which is the same one inside the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro phones that were released in Q4 2022.

Google is also expected to launch a tablet during its event on May 10, further rounding out the Google ecosystem that also includes the Pixel Watch and Pixel Buds.
