Grand Deepotsav: Ayodhya to Set World Record with 24 Lakh Lamps illuminating 51 ghats

In an ambitious endeavor to illuminate the historic city of Ayodhya, the administration of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University has initiated preparations for lighting a staggering 24 lakh lamps on the auspicious occasion of Diwali.

This announcement was made through a press release issued by the university, which further revealed that a cadre of enthusiastic volunteers will be deployed to 51 prominent ghats, including the iconic Ram Ki Paidi and Chaudhary Charan Singh Ghat, to orchestrate a monumental celebration known as ‘Ayodhya Deepotsav.’

The official release underscores that the Uttar Pradesh government has set an ambitious target of lighting 21 lakh lamps with the intent of establishing a new world record. Under the able guidance of University Vice-Chancellor, Pratibha Goyal, the regionalized Deepotsav is expected to be an extravagant affair. The statement emphasizes that more than 25,000 dedicated volunteers are poised to set yet another world record during the Deepotsav festivities.

The press release sheds light on the significant progress made thus far, with 60 to 70 percent of the lamps already placed at the designated ghats with the collaborative efforts of volunteers working under the supervision of ghat in-charges and coordinators. The university administration has taken measures to ensure the availability of lamps, wicks, candles, and other essential materials for the coordinators and volunteers, as stated in the official release.

In addition to these preparations, volunteers and coordinators will be required to present both their Aadhar card and a Deepotsav identity card as part of the process, as highlighted in the press note.

Furthermore, specific provisions have been made to ensure the organized and symmetrical lighting of lamps. Volunteers will be allotted a space of 2.5 feet for the purpose of lighting individual lamps, while a larger area measuring 4.50 by 4.50 square feet has been designated for the placement of blocks containing 16 by 16 (256) lamps. Similar arrangements have been made for blocks measuring 14 by 14. These designated blocks will be illuminated by the diligent volunteers, as per the release.

The press release states that the meticulous work of placing lamps on all the ghats is set to be accomplished by the volunteers, under the close supervision of the ghat in-charges. This task is expected to be completed by November 9.

Following the spectacular display of lamps and the attainment of the set target on November 10, the ghats will undergo a thorough cleaning process, and the number of lamps will be meticulously counted by a team from the Guinness Book of World Records.

Safety measures have also been implemented to ensure the well-being of the volunteers and ghat in-charges. The press release emphasizes that they will be required to wear cotton clothing on the day of Deepotsav. Furthermore, while participating in the lighting of lamps, utmost care must be taken to ensure personal safety and the safety of others.

The official release features a statement from the Deepotsav Nodal Officer, Sant Sharan Mishra, who explained, “Volunteers and other officials have been briefed about the preparations for Deepotsav, and arrangements have been made for buses to transport the volunteers from the university to Deepotsav. The buses will depart from the university to Ram Ki Paidi every day at 8 am.”

The monumental preparations and enthusiasm surrounding Ayodhya’s Deepotsav promise to make this year’s Diwali celebration a truly historic and record-breaking event, casting the city in a resplendent sea of light and ushering in a sense of unity and community spirit among its residents and visitors. With such an ambitious goal, Ayodhya is gearing up to establish itself as a beacon of grandeur and festivity, setting a world record in the process.
