Sharmin Segal is gaining recognition on a global scale with her performance as Alamzeb in the Netflix drama Heeramandi. She played the lively youngest daughter of Manisha Koirala’s Mallikajaan in the series, who is being raised to be a tawaif for the Indian nobility. The actor was nominated for a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut and received critical accolades for her ground-breaking debut performance in ‘Malal.’ She has, however, come under heavy fire for ‘holding the same expression’ the whole time in Heeramandi.

Sharmin Segal Gets Hate For The Role of Alamzeb in ‘Heeramandi’

A section on the internet said, ‘nepotism got her this role.’ Sharmin Segal has turned off comments on her most recent social media posts due to the hate she has been receiving. One of the users wrote, “Sharmin. So bad. Such bland expressions and monotonous acting.” Another user wrote, “Same expression When her books were burnt, When her lover died, When she avenged.” The third user said, “Am I the only one who skipped her scenes because it was boring to watch? Someone else really deserves this role, sorry to say !” The fourth user said, Sorry to say…. Your acting just destroyed the whole series sharmil…. Please take up some serious acting classes,, otherwise please dont try acting at all.”

 

Who is Sharmin Segal, Heeramandi’s Alamzeb

Sharmin Sehgal is the daughter of studio executive Deepak Segal and film editor Bela Segal. She is also the great Hindi director Mohan Segal’s granddaughter. Additionally, she is the niece of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who helmed her in the film Heeramandi. Her experience has been further enhanced by working as an assistant director under her uncle, Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Sharmin made her debut in Bhansali’s ‘Malaal‘ alongside Meezan Jafri in 2019. Sharmin later starred in the horror comedy ‘Atithi Bhooto Bhava‘ after closely collaborating with Bhansali as an assistant director on films like Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani, and Gangubai Kathiawadi. In 2019, Sharmin Segal received her degree from the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York.

Following her November 2023 marriage to Indian businessman Aman Mehta, Sharmin has a modest private life away from the spotlight. To balance her burgeoning acting career with her new married obligations, Sharmin chooses to keep her life secret.
