IMD Issues Red Alert In Delhi, Uttar Pradesh Amid Scorching Temperatures, Relief Likely From This Date

Delhi Weather Update: Delhi, which is dealing with severe heatwave conditions, is on red alert, with daytime temperatures likely to hit 45 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), residents of the capital city can expect some relief from the intense heat starting Wednesday, June 19. The mercury in the national capital surged to 45.2 degrees Celsius yesterday as an intense heatwave gripped the Delhi-NCR region.

Delhi Weather Update: Heatwave Alert

Several parts of the national capital witnessed heatwave to severe heatwave conditions. The Safdarjung observatory witnessed and recorded 45.2 degree Celsius, which is 6.4 notches above the season’s average temperature.

Residents of Delhi are not getting relief in early morning as the temperature is boiling hot. Yesterday, the capital city woke up to a warm morning, with minimum temperature settling at 33 degree Celsius, which is 5.5 notches above normal.

The weather at the Palam station hit an unusual high of 46 degrees Celsius, soaring 7 degrees above the typical average. In the same vein, Lodhi Road experienced a sweltering 45.6 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Ridge, Ayanagar, and Najafgarh endured temperatures of 46.3, 46.4, and 46.3 degrees Celsius respectively; each 7 degrees warmer than the expected norms.

Delhi is expected to witness mainly clear skies, with long surface winds during the day.

Delhi Weather Update: Slight Relief From Scorching Heat From This Date

Forecast predicts that several regions in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi are likely to feel the scorch of heatwaves or severe heatwaves until June 19. This weather extremity is also expected to grip Himachal Pradesh and Bihar until June 18.

The weather forecast suggests a slight drop in the temperature of Delhi from Wednesday. It looks like the ‘yellow’ weather alert for Wednesday and Thursday will swiftly transform into a ‘green’ alert as we head into Friday and Saturday.

Weather Update:

Sweltering heatwave is set to continue in places like Jammu and Kashmir, Northern Madhya Pradesh, and the North Coast of Andhra Pradesh till June 18th. Not to forget, Uttar Pradesh and Eastern Madhya Pradesh should also brace themselves for warm and possibly excessively hot nights till the same day. Generally, we define a heatwave as a condition when the top temperature hits 40 degrees Celsius in plain regions, 37 degrees near coastlines, and 30 degrees in highland areas, diverging by a minimum of 4.5 notches than the usual. If the difference with the standard temperature crosses 6.4 notches, it’s recognized as a severe heatwave.
