Sri Lanka vs India 3rd T20I Live

That's the end of the series as India have clinched yet another bilateral series and Sri Lanka's wait to win a series in India will have to wait. However, they will get a chance immediately in a few day's time as the two sides will lock horns in a three-match ODI series. But that is going to be only harder for the Lankans as the Indian giants will return to action. I will take you leave for today. Stay tuned to Firstpost for more stories around the tournament. Have a good night and good time!

22:46 (IST)

Hardik Pandya, India captain | I think he (SKY) has been surprising everyone everytime that he is batting. He is just telling us that batting is so easy. If I were bowling to him, I'd be disheartened on seeing his batting. Special mention to Rahul Tripathi - the ball was doing something but he showed great intent. Then SKY did his thing. You don't need to tell him anything, he knows what to do. If there is any situation where he is unsure, we have our chats but more often than not, he knows what to do. I'm really proud of Axar, the way he is batting down the order and hitting. This will give a lot of confidence to him and the team as well. My motto in life as captain has been that I'll back my players. These are the best T20 cricketers in India and that's why they are here. There is no space for doubting in this format and we're backing the players properly. The way we played in the series is pleasing, we didn't even play 50 percent of our game in the second game but we still fought well.

22:37 (IST)

Suryakumar Yadav, Player of the Match | It's really important to put pressure on yourself when you are preparing for a game. If you do that in practice, it gets a little easier while playing the game. There is a lot of hard work involved but it's about doing quality practice sessions. You should know what your game is and prepare accordingly. Boundaries behind the wickets are like 50-60 meters, so I try to target them. There are some shots that are pre-determined but you need to have other shots in the armoury as well. If the bowler changes his plan, you can have an answer. He (Dravid) just lets me enjoy myself. He tells me to just enjoy and express myself.

22:35 (IST)

Dasun Shanaka, Sri Lanka captain | Before coming here, I wasn't in form. From the start of this series, I got in good form. Happy with my own performance. The way the boys fought in this series, lot's of positives. I had a finger injury, that's the reason I didn't bowl in this series but looking forward to bowling in the ODIs. Wishing the Indian team well, especially Surya who was too good. In the field, I want to keep calm and let the boys learn. When I come to bat, it's a different game.

22:31 (IST)

Yuzvendra Chahal | After the first match, I had a discussion with the coaches - on what pace and line to be bowling. Suryakumar Yadav is batting at a different level and I'm happy that I'm in the same team as him. Axar is a perfect package. It's tough to bowl to him as well as he's a clean hitter.

An excellent win for India to finish the series on a high and on the positive side. Hardik Pandya will be happy to make a comeback after that defeat in Pune where the top order struggled. But India's top order finally came to the fore today as Shubman Gill stayed longer at the crease and tried to anchor, while Rahul Tripathi also played a brisk innings before getting out. Suryakumar Yadav just notched up to another level, taking the responsibility of being the senior batter in this line up and brought up his third century in T20Is.

The Sri Lankan batters started a bit steadily in the powerplay, but weren't able to get going, and once the first three went down, Sri Lanka were completely out of the game. The bowlers were a lot more decent than Pune as everyone was among the wickets. No-balls were also corrected, but they did bowl a few more wides - 11 to be specific. However, that won't bother much today as they have won by a mammoth 91 runs.

22:22 (IST)

The bilateral series juggernaut continues for India!

0.1 Interestingly, Hardik Pandya starts the proceedings. More interestingly, Patthum Nissanka has been caught plumb and the umpire has given him out! No bat involved either as the batter reviews the umpire's call. Ahh, the wickets are missing and Nitin Menon's decision will be reversed.

Suryakumar Yadav | I'm really happy with the way the innings went. Captain winning the toss and batting first showed faith in the batters. Few shots are pre-determined, but these are the shots I've been playing over the last year and I'm not doing anything different. The 2022 form is gone, it's a fresh start in 2023 and I hope to continue doing well. It's a good pitch, a nice bounce, and a lush outfield.

Can Sri Lanka chase the mammoth 229-run target? Sri Lanka have never won a series in India - be it T20I, ODIs, or Tests. If they chase this total today, Dasun Shanaka and his men will register themselves in the history books. Hardik Pandya and the Indian bowlers now have the task of defending the total and simultaneously also defending their winning streak. Second innings is moments away as Indian huddle has dissolved after a brief discussion.

16.1 A slice over the third man for Six! Can you believe it? Harsha Bhogle was just asking what is left to be seen that we haven't already. Maybe SKY heard it on the field. He is into the nineties.

The young pace bowling unit will look to pick up pieces from the hammering of the previous night even as the Indian top-order itches to put in a meaningful performance against Sri Lanka in the decider of the three-match T20I series here on Saturday.

After eking out a narrow last-ball win in the opener, India fell short by a 16-run defeat as Sri Lanka levelled the three-match series 1-1.

The inconsistency of a young attack was one of the reasons for the defeat but going forward Umran Malik and Shivam Mavi will know that it was a great learning experience for them.

They erred in their lines and didn’t always bowl the fuller length, making the Sri Lankan batters’ job easy to guide the pace of the short-pitched stuff.

The Indian bowling unit bled runs with left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, who returned to the playing XI after a spell of injuries, bowling as many as five no-balls in his two overs.

He stepped over the line three times on the trot in his first over, making him the first India bowler to bowl hat-trick of no-balls in the T20I.

Mavi, who made a sensational T20I debut in the opening game and Arshdeep Singh added to the no-ball count as they too missed the trick with skipper Hardik Pandya, who had to rely on his spinners, lamenting that the team needs to get its basics right.

But the youngsters in the team are expected more chances as they gather valuable experience.

On the batting front, the top order, once again, failed to provide a solid start. Shubman Gill succumbed to his second successive failure in the series and would be eager to capitalise on the opportunities in hand like Rahul Tripathi, who too perished cheaply in his debut game.

It was the second instance of the top-order collapse in the series.

But despite half the team returning to the dugout under 60 runs, it was heartening to see India still go for the chase as Axar Patel and Suryakumar Yadav almost pulled off the impossible.

In Axar, India have found a reliable like-for-like replacement for Ravindra Jadeja.

The team is expected to give its core more games to form lethal combinations as it prepares for life beyond Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the shortest format of the game.

India is unlikely to make any changes for the series decider with head coach Dravid asserting “we are not going to be chopping and changing people too much.”

As expected, Sri Lanka have given a solid fight to the hosts. The reigning Asia Cup champions came back strongly to level the series.

However, they would like their middle order to perform better.

Rajkot is one of the flattest tracks in the country and is expected to be a batting belter.

The toss could thus play an important role as both captains would like to chase.
