Mohammed Shami, whose participation in the South Africa Test series was subject to fitness has not been cleared by the BCCI Medical Team and the fast bowler has been ruled out of the two Tests. The BCCI has not named a replacement yet.

India will also be without the services of Deepak Chahar in the ODI series against South Africa as the pacer is unavailable for the assignment due to a family medical emergency, the BCCI informed on Saturday. The senior men’s selection committee has named Akash Deep as Chahar’s replacement in the ODI squad.

Shreyas Iyer will join the Test squad after the first ODI to prepare for the Test series. He will not be available for the second and third ODI and will take part in the inter-squad game.

India head coach Rahul Dravid will also not be available during the ODI series. Dravid, batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey and fielding coach T. Dilip will link up with the Test squad and oversee their preparations for the inter-squad game and the Test series.

The ODI team will be assisted by India A’s coaching staff comprising batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, bowling coach Rajib Datta and fielding coach Ajay Ratra

The three-match ODI series starts on 17 December (Sunday).

The two-match Test series starts on 26 December.
