IPL 2023 Points Table, Orange and Purple Cap list: LSG jump to the top after thrilling victory over RCB

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) jumped to the top of the Indian Premier League (IPL) points table on Monday with a thrilling one-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Bengaluru on Monday.

Chasing a stiff 213 to win, Lucknow rode on scintillating fifties from Nicholas Pooran (62 off 19) and Marcus Stoinis (65 off 30) along with a valuable contribution from Ayush Badoni (30 off 24) to bounce back after losing wickets in a heap at the outset. LSG held their nerve despite a late fightback from RCB in the last two overs to go over the line in the last ball with a wicket to spare, and collect their third win in four games.

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) moved up from bottom of the IPL points table with a comfortable 8-wicket win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Sunday. This was after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pulled off what could be described as one of the greatest victories in the history of the IPL, beating Gujarat Titans by three wickets in a last-ball thriller.

SRH’s first win of the season was fashioned by spinner Mayank Markande and later by batter Rahul Tripathi even as Shikhar Dhawan waged a lone battle with a 66-ball 99 run knock. Shikhar Dhawan-led Punjab became the last team to lose a match this season.

In the KKR-GT clash, Rinku Singh emerged the hero for Kolkata as he smashed an unbeaten 48 off just 21 deliveries, including five sixes in a row in the final over bowled by Yash Dayal after they were left needing 29 runs in the final over. Gujarat Titans, as a result, suffered their first defeat of the season after starting off with two consecutive wins, and have dropped to the fourth spot.

Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians, who will clash on Tuesday, are the only remaining teams without a victory, with Delhi at the bottom of the table with three defeats in as many games.

Here’s a look at the updated IPL 2023 points table after SRH vs LSG game:

RCB skipper Faf du Plessis is third on the list after his unbeaten 79 against LSG in Bengaluru.

LSG pacer Mark Wood, meanwhile, currently holds the Purple Cap with nine wickets to his name. He went past GT’s Rashid Khan and RR’s Yuzvendra Chahal, both of whom have taken eight wickets so far, by dismissing Glenn Maxwell in the RCB-LSG match on Monday.
