IPL 2023 Points Table, Orange and Purple Cap list: RCB boost playoff hopes with eight-wicket win over SRH

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) greatly boosted their hopes of reaching the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs after an eight-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday.

RCB opener and former captain Virat Kohli was the man of the moment as he setup the comfortable victory with a 63-ball 100 — his first century in the IPL in four years as well as his sixth overall — while stitching a 172-run opening partnership with current skipper Faf du Plessis (71).

Though the two set batters would depart close to the finish line, Glenn Maxwell and Michael Bracewell got the team over the line in the 187-run chase with four deliveries to spare to ensure the team went level with Mumbai Indians (MI) on 14 points, dislodging the five-time champions from the fourth spot thanks to their superior Net Run Rate (NRR).

The Sunrisers, meanwhile, continue to languish at the bottom of the 10-team table after suffering their ninth defeat in 13 games despite a brave maiden IPL hundred from the in-form Heinrich Klaasen. They face Mumbai in their final game on Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium, where they will hope to spoil the party for Rohit Sharma’s men and end their disappointing campaign on a high.
