IPL 2024 Auction: Most expensive players in history featuring Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc
Australia seamer Mitchell Starc has become the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League. By securing his services for a staggering Rs 24.75 crore, Kolkata Knight Riders made him the most expensive buy in the history of the league during the IPL 2024 Auction in Dubai on Tuesday (19 December).
In so doing, he replaced Pat Cummins who had entered the Rs 20 crore club just moments prior in the IPL auction. The Aussie skipper has joined Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 20.50 crore.
Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians had shown early interest in signing Starc. Just when MI looked to have had the edge over their rivals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans entered the fray. Both KKR and GT then took it upon themselves to outbid MI and surge ahead in the bidding war.
The fans inside the Coco Cola Arena applauded Starc entering the Rs 20 crore club and then beating his Australia bowling partner.
KKR then shared a modified image of Starc in an Iron Man suit.
