Jason Shah Says Sharmin Segal Gave a One-Tone Performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: ‘Her Role Had a Lot of Scope’

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi is still making waves despite being out for almost a month. The star-studded show is being loved by the audience. While every character in the series is receiving praise, Sharmin Segal’s performance has not gone well with the audience. The actor has been trolled for her performance and monotonous facial expressions. Now, her co-star Jason Shah has spoken about Sharmin Segal’s performance in the series.

During an interview with Entertainment Live, Jason Shah said that Sharmin should have brought different facial expressions. The actor said, “I feel there should have been higher escalations of emotions in different places. I remember Sanjay sir also saying on set to not act from here (brain) but act from here (heart) to Sharmin and the other actor alongside her (Taha Shah).”

He continued, “I don’t know, maybe that is what they wanted from her. Maybe that is the one tone they were looking for in this character—that is again the director’s call. But yes, she was alright, she was doing her thing, and we worked pretty easily together. We never had any difficulty as such.”

He also added, “If she wasn’t told to keep it one-tone, I felt that the character had a lot of space and a lot of scope to do a lot of different things. I didn’t feel it was fully explored. But I’m not the director.”

Meanwhile, Sharmin has also addressed the criticism she has been receiving for her performance in the series. During an interview with the BBC, the actor said, “In my personal life, I am secure enough today to come home to my husband and put everything that I have done at work aside. But I am not that person who’s gonna constantly put that much pressure on it. Yes, I do want to prove myself, but today I am also a realist in that way. How many people’s opinions are you gonna shape or have control over?”
