Kate Winslet on long-lasting friendship with 'Titanic' co-star Leonardo DiCaprio: 'We both went through...'

Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio’s soulful performance and the sizzling chemistry in the film Titanic led the film to become a milestone in the history of international cinema. One of the favourite onscreen couples, the duo also intrigued audiences with their performance in 2008’s About Revolutionary Road.

The couple’s relationship off the screen, over the last two decades, blossomed into a long-lasting friendship about which the actress recently spoke, pouring her heart out.

Kate Winslet recently indulged in a candid conversation with Porter magazine where she revealed the reason why she and DiCaprio connected so deeply at that time. The conversation about her and the Titanic actor’s friendship began after Winslet was told about a meme by the magazine. The meme says, “Find yourself someone who looks at you the way Leo looks at Kate.” Responding to the same, Winslet said, “[He’s looking at me like that because] he just knows I can see right through it all.” She added, “I think when you experience something so seismic, so young… we really went through that together.”

Moving ahead, Winslet also recalled how the success of Titanic bothered her with a constant vigil on her life, career and more. The actress admitted that she felt like looking a certain way as the media intrusion was significant at that time and her life was unpleasant. In what she believed was the solution, she started signing fewer blockbuster titles for which she was even criticised by fans and media alike. Winslet noted, “Journalists would always say, ‘After Titanic, you could have done anything and yet you chose to do these small things’ … and I was like, Yeah, you bet your life I did!” she said. “Because guess what, being famous was horrible.’”

Kate Winslet apparently had a hard time after the monstrous success of Titanic which she defines by saying that the fame was more than what a “young, vulnerable person can cope with”. Meanwhile, Winslet is all set for the next project, HBO’s The Regime which will be released on March 3.
