Kolkata Knight Riders to release Shreyas Iyer before IPL 2025? Former India batter makes BIG statement…

New Delhi: Former India and Kolkata Knight Riders batter Aakash Chopra said Shah Rukh Khan, Bollywood star and co-owner of the KKR, will no longer let Shreyas Iyer go from the franchise prior to the IPL 2025 mega auction. No person understands emotions better than Shah Rukh, he said, adding that Shah Rukh will retain the skipper for purely ’emotional reasons.’

Iyer captained Kolkata to victory within the IPL 2024 title in May, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets within the ultimate held in Chennai, securing their 0.33 IPL championship.

Chopra mentioned that Iyer may perhaps be the first player retained by Kolkata. Less than the logo new retention rules, franchises are allowed to retain a maximum of six players, subject to certain terms and prerequisites.

“You prefer to first retain the captain, who's Shreyas Iyer. If 18 crores go, let them go because you won’t get a captain. He's your winning captain. If Gautam (Gambhir) isn’t there, retain your captain to preserve some continuity,” Chopra said while speaking on his YouTube channel.

“You would perchance get Shreyas Iyer for 18 crores the usage of the RTM but never try this with the captain because at last this game is played by humans, and humans have hearts, and thereby emotions. Who will have in mind emotions better than Khan Sahab (Shahrukh Khan),” Chopra said.

In IPL 2024, Iyer amassed 351 runs in 14 matches, boasting a strike rate of 146.86, including two 0.5-centuries.

Chopra stated that similarly to Iyer, Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, and Andre Russell should even be one of many important thing retentions for the Kolkata-based franchise.

“2nd, since I am having a look from the Indian point of view, if Rinku Singh comes to the market, he'll be sold for 14 crores. So retain Rinku Singh of course. Retain both Andre Russell and Sunil Narine. The issue is that when you keep both, one will probably be for eleven crores but the fourth retention will probably be for 18 crores,” Chopra said.
