Man complains of stomach pain for 2 years, doctors surprised to find earphones, hairclip, marble inside his body

A 40-year-old man has been suffering from stomach-related issues for over two years and recently got a high fever, and stomach ache and over the last two days, he complained of nausea after which he was rushed to a hospital in Punjab’s Moga where he left the doctors shocked.

The man was admitted to the Medicity Hospital in Moga and even after the initial diagnosis, when he continued to have severe stomach pain, doctors decided to conduct an X-ray scan to determine the cause and they were left surprised.

The reports were disturbing and showed several metallic objects were there inside the man’s stomach. The man had to undergo a surgery that lasted for three hours. The doctors pulled out almost a hundred items from his stomach which included earphones, nuts and bolts, buttons, wires, rakhis, lockets, wrappers, washers, hairclips and zipper tags.

A marble and a safety pin were also pulled out of the man’s stomach.

‘Man critical even after surgery’

As per a report by The Indian Express, Ajmer Singh Kalra, director of the hospital said since the man had eaten sharp objects, there were severe wounds in his stomach.

“Even though the surgery was carried out successfully, he is still on ventilator and is critical,” Singh added.

As per doctors, the man was suffering from an eating disorder pica.

Meanwhile, the family of the man said they were surprised by the findings and did not know when and why he consumed those items. His parents had no clue about how he managed to eat the items but alleged that he suffered from mental illnesses.

The man’s family member informed us that he was complaining of stomach ache and was unable to sleep, especially over the last few days. They even took him to several doctors earlier, but none were able to diagnose the cause of his pain.

What is Pica disorder?

Pica is an eating disorder in which a person eats things not usually considered food.

It is characterised by the consumption of non-food items that are typically not considered edible. While it is common for young children to explore the world by putting non-food items like grass or toys in their mouths out of curiosity, individuals with pica take this behaviour to an extreme. They may ingest substances that can pose health risks and lead to various health problems.
