Bhumika Dube is an accomplished Indian film actress, known for her performances in The Railway Men, Dahan, and Motichoor Chaknachoor. Recently, she was seen as a lead actress in the film Barah By Barah. Directed by Gaurav Madan and Sunny Lahiri, Bhumika performs the character of an ordinary Indian homemaker who runs her own small tailoring business. Her natural acting indeed left an indelible mark on the audience.

Speaking to India.com, Bhumika talked about her character in Barah By Barah and also how empowering it was. She said, “My character of Meera, who is from Banaras has been shown as a strong pillar of the family. When she sees that her husband is not working, she does this small business to support her family. She is a decision maker, and her voice gives power and resilience to her character.” Besides Bhumika, the film also features an ensemble cast including Gyanendra Tripathi, Geetika Vidya Ohlyan, Harish Khanna, and Akash Sinha.

Bhumika Dube’s Early Life And Acting Journey

Bhumika, a National School of Drama (NSD) graduate, has always been passionate about theatre. She said, “My father is a theatre practitioner. So, I saw my father performing on stage since childhood and it remained with me.” Inspired by her father, Gopal Dube, she joined a theatre group while simultaneously pursuing a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication. In 2011, she received a junior scholarship in theatre from the Ministry of Culture, India.

In 2016, Dube arrived in Mumbai after completing her studies at NSD. To kickstart her journey in the films, she participated in various independent short films that were well-received at multiple festivals. In 2018, she landed a role in the movie Motichoor Chaknachoor, and since then, she has appeared in a few minor roles in other films and has done around 45 commercials.

Bhumika Dube Talks About The Railway Men Audition

Bhumika, who played Nafisa in Netflix starrer The Railway Men, revealed that she auditioned for the web series during the “Second Lockdown, a period that severely impacted the industry’s economy”. She said, “Though I was very adamant about the part, I don’t want to play a 29-year-old, someone who is 10 years older. However, out of necessity, I accepted the role and was happy to be part of the series.”

Her character unknowingly gets caught up in the aftermath of the Bhopal gas tragedy while searching for her husband at the Union Carbide factory. Dube, who was born and raised in Bhopal, revealed that she wasn’t born when the gas tragedy happened in real but has listened to several stories of people who had gone through the worst industrial disaster. She said, “In my family, my father has seen it. He ran away the same night. He developed a skin issue and at that time he was 30 years old. And now, I am 30, I have developed the same skin issue.” In Railway Men, Dube was seen sharing screen space with talents Babil Khan, Kaykay Menon, R Madhavan and Divyenndu Sharma.

Bhumika Dube’s Working Experience With Babil Khan

Bhumika shared her experience of working with the star-studded cast of The Railway Men. She said, “My most of the scenes were with Babil Khan” and added, “It was a very joyful experience. Being Irfan Khan’s son, he didn’t exhibit any tantrums. He was so much fun to work with. He is well aware of his privilege and actions, and I truly admire his sensitivity as a person. Dube also talked about their NSD connection and said, “I remember cracking this joke to Babil after the shoot that he is from NSD too, where N stands for Natural.”

Amid growing anticipation for Phir Aayi Haseena Dilruba particularly after the success of Haseena Dilbrua, Bhumika expressed her excitement about the role, stating, “Any actor whether male or female will die to do it.” She added, “Most of the scenes are with Vikrant Massey, and I am really fond of this character.” Besides this, Bhumika will also be seen in Prime Video’s original series Bandwaale, where she stars alongside Shalini Pandey and Zahan Kapoor in pivotal roles.
