Mithun Chakraborty rushed to hospital in Kolkata after complaining of chest pain

Veteran actor and politician Mithun Chakraborty has been admitted to the emergency unit of a private hospital in Kolkata today, February 10. According to reports, he was rushed to the hospital after complaining of chest pain. He is currently undergoing treatment and further updates on his health condition are awaited.

Last month, Mithun Chakraborty was honoured with the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award in India. The star expressed his gratitude to his fans through a video message in Bengali. In the clip, he conveyed (English translation), “I am proud, I am happy to have received this award. I would like to thank everyone. I have never asked anything for myself from anyone. I am experiencing the feeling of receiving something without asking today. It’s a different feeling altogether. It’s a great feeling.”

Mithun Chakraborty continued: “I would like to dedicate this award to all my fans, my well-wishers from in and out of India, from all over the world. For those who have selflessly loved me, I would like to dedicate the award to them. Thank you so much for giving me so much love and respect.”

Sharing the video on X (formerly known as Twitter) handle, film critic Vineeta Kumar wrote, “Mithun Chakraborty says the Padma Bhushan award is the first time someone has given him something without asking.”

On the work front, Mithun Chakraborty was last seen in the Bengali film Kabuliwala. Directed by Suman Ghosh, the movie also starred Abir Chatterjee, Javaid Khan, and Shahid Mushtaq in prominent roles. Speaking about the film, Mithun shared with Hindustan Times, “Kabuliwala is not just any film that I thought of doing casually. Although it’s a Bengali film, it’s important to remember that it’s about an Afghan-speaking Bengali, not a Bengali-speaking Afghan. Nowadays, everyone observes everything very minutely, so this was a big deal. The film shows how an Afghan learns Bengali and speaks it with a mix of Hindi and Bengali.”

Mithun Chakraborty also revealed his preparation for the role, stating, “I had a friend named Jamaluddin Khan, a Pathan from Afghanistan, who was a cook by profession. He used to bring me different foods. I tried to mimic the way he spoke breathlessly and walked. The way he used to get out of breath while speaking, the hesitant way he spoke, I imitated that, and the producer and director were very happy with it. They agreed and said our Kabuliwala would be just like this.”

Mithun Chakraborty has given Bollywood many hits in the 80s and 90s such as Disco Dancer, Jung, and Phool Aur Angaar.
