Mukesh Chhabra on 'Laal Singh Chaddha': 'Couldn't believe it was a disaster, but Aamir Khan threw a party because…'

Aamir Khan came back on the big screen after a gap of four years for Laal Singh Chaddha in 2022, which was the official remake of the Hollywood classic Forrest Gump. It was directed by Advait Chandan and starred Kareena Kapoor Khan and Mona Singh in crucial roles too. In an interview with LallanTop, casting director Mukesh Chhabra spoke about its failure and why Khan celebrated even then.

He revealed, “It doesn’t impact my agency professionally, but personally, you feel bad. After the movie flopped, I spoke to Aamir and Advait Chandan (director); we couldn’t believe the movie had been thrashed. For a film to flop is one thing, but a disaster is a whole different thing altogether.”

He continued, “Not too many people know this, but Aamir hosted a party for all of us in honour of the crew. He said, ‘Sorry the film didn’t work, but we should all meet’. Who does this? We were all wondering why they’re having a party, but they wanted all the departments to come together. Everyone was there, Advait, Pritam, Kareena, everyone was there, Amitabh Bhattacharya is singing songs from the film. Aamir kept saying that it was his fault.”

Kareena Kapoor on the film’s failure

In an interview with Midday, Kapoor revealed that as she met Aamir at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre, Mr Perfectionist seemed ‘apologetic and dejected’ regarding the box office result of Laal Singh Chaddha. The diva revealed that she told him through WhatsApp that according to her, they have not lost as they have made a beautiful film and their friendship and love shall not be measured by box office success.

The actress added that her character Rupa in the film will always be ‘iconic’ to her as it has a dark side to it. For those who do not know, Kareena Kapoor and Aamir Khan are credited with delivering blockbuster hits such as 3 Idiots and Talaash.

Laal Singh Chaddha revolves around a man with a low IQ. He struggles through life with the only hope in his heart to be reunited with his childhood sweetheart, Rupa. The primary cast of the movie also includes Naga Chaitanya, Mona Singh, Rohaan Singh, Manav Vij, Aaryaa Sharma and Arun Bali in prominent roles.
