Munjya Actor Abhay Verma Says ‘He Regrets Rejecting’ Irrfan Khan’s Angrezi Medium: ‘If I Could…’

Abhay Verma is currently basking in the glory of his recent release, Munjya. The actor has turned heads with his performance and garnered a significant fanbase. However, little did people know, Abhay was once offered a role in the late actor Irrfan Khan’s film Angrezi Medium, but he rejected it. Now, regretting the missed opportunity, Abhay said, “if I could have just gotten a chance to stand next to Irrfan sir.”

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Abhay said, “I received an offer to work in Angrezi Medium, but somehow it didn’t materialize. I regret it a lot because it was Irrfan sir’s last film, and if I could have had the chance to stand next to him even in one frame, it would have been my biggest award.”

Why Did Abhay Verma Reject Angrezi Medium?

Explaining the reason behind rejecting Angrezi Medium, Abhay said, “The role I was offered was small, and I had received another film with a leading role and better screen space, but eventually, that film never happened.”

Before Munjya, Abhay Verma portrayed diverse roles such as a terrorist in The Family Man, a transgender person in Safed, and a patriot in Ae Watan Mere Watan. Despite these roles, his recognition soared significantly following Munjya.

He remarked, “I had a major positive takeaway from The Family Man that if you work honestly for five days in your life, it would get you recognition for 50 years. But with Safed’s reception, I was really disheartened.”

“After completing Munjya, I took a gamble with my life for one-and-a-half years. I wanted to wait to see the response to it before taking any further steps in my career. I managed that time with my savings but also had to sacrifice a lot. I haven’t been to a restaurant in over one-and-a-half years. In the last three-four months, I even started feeling a little suffocated, but thankfully, the wait proved fruitful; otherwise, my bag for Panipat was almost packed,” he said.
