About Sharvari Wagh, Abhay Verma’s Film ‘Munjya’

Munjya is the Marathi term for the Upanayana (holy thread) ritual, which is usually carried out during puberty among Hindu Brahmin males. During the Brahmacharya rite, the kid places a cotton holy thread beneath his right arm and across his left shoulder. Subsequently, the Sod Munjya ritual commemorates the shift from Brahmacharya to a family-oriented lifestyle. In popular Hindu tradition, a man becomes a Munjya ghost if he passes away single following his Munjya ritual but before his Sod Munjya.

The concept that these ghosts reside under peepal trees or next to wells is the basis for the Bollywood film. Because of this, people are wary of approaching peepal trees or wells after dark.

The narrative of Munjya, a mythological creature from Indian culture and mythology, is told through the eyes of a monster situated in Pune and the Konkan district of Maharashtra. It centres on the fabled beast of the same name, which wreaks havoc on Bittu’s life (played by Abhay Verma of The Family Man fame).
