Open AI Releases ChatGPT Edu, Brings AI To Universities: Here’s How It Works

ChatGPT has become a major part of student lives in recent years, assisting them in finishing assignments, projects, and whatnot. Now, OpenAI has launched a dedicated platform “ChatGPT Edu” for universities to benefit students, faculty, and researchers through the effective use of Artificial Intelligence.

The new version, powered by GPT-4o, can reason across text and vision to perform complex multiple tasks like data analysis, image interpretation, comprehensive solutions, and more.

Features Of ChatGPT Edu

The new version of ChatGPT can perform several tasks related to academics such as text interpretations, coding, mathematics, data summarisation, and data analytics. It can also provide personalised tutoring for students, can review their assignments and resumes, can help researchers with their thesis, and can also assist faculty in reviewing grades and feedback.

The Integration of ChatGPT-4o means that the users will also be able to build CustomGPTs according to their needs. These custom GPTs can be shared within the university workspace to streamline the workflow within the institution.

The ChatGPT Edu version claims to offer improved language capabilities with over 50 languages supported. It will also allow a higher number of queries than the free version of ChatGPT.

ChatGPT’s Integration In Universities

Open AI claimed after successful collaboration with the University of Oxford, Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, University of Texas at Austin, Arizona State University, and Columbia University, ChatGPT decided to head for this new venture.

OpenAI claimed that Universities have found creative ways to use ChatGPT to elevate their performance. Professor Nabila El-Bassel is leading a team at Columbia University who are building a GPT to reduce overdose fatalities. At Wharton School, undergrads and MBA students are using ChatGPT trained on course materials for their final assignments.

Kyle Bowen, Deputy CIO at Arizona State University was full of praise for ChatGPT. “Integrating OpenAI’s technology into our educational and operational frameworks accelerates transformation,” he said.
He further added, “We’re collaborating across our community to harness these tools, extending our learnings as a scalable model for other institutions.”
