Pakistan SHOCKER: Tourist Shot, Dragged Through Streets, Hung In Public And Set Afire For ‘Desecrating’ Quran In Swat Town; Disturbing Visuals Emerge

In a horrifying incident, a local tourist was shot by a rabid mob, dragged through streets and hung in full public view for allegedly desecrating the Holy Quran in Pakistan’s picturesque Swat town. The body of the alleged ‘blasphemer’, identified as Muhammad Ismail, was later burned in the streets by the irate mob even as stomach-churning visuals of the horror went viral on social media.

According to Pakistani media, the incident took place on Thursday night when the victim, Muhammad Ismail, a resident of Sialkot in Punjab province, was visiting the northwestern Pakistan hill resort town of Swat.

Ismail was accused of burning pages of the Quran in Madyan tehsil of Swat district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and was initially detained by the local police, an officer said.

“Initially the police had taken Ismail in custody and locked him up in the police station when the alleged desecration incident was reported,” said District Police Officer (DPO), Swat, Zahidullah.

Soon, a mob of thousands soon gathered outside the police station and demanded the police to hand over the suspect to them after local clerics made the news of alleged blasphemy public by announcing it from mosques on loudspeakers.

The irate mob demanded the cops to hand over Ismail who refused resulting in a fiery gunfight between the locals and the police in which eight persons were injured, The Express Tribune newspaper reported. However, the raging mob refused to back down and set the police station on fire, forcing the cops on duty to flee for their lives, it said.

“After that, the people entered the police station and shot and killed the suspect and dragged his body to the Madyan Ada, where they hanged him. The people also set the police station and police vehicles on fire, while the policemen on duty fled. Meanwhile, more police force was called to control the mob,” the officer was quoted as saying.

Visuals of the shocking incident which have gone viral on social media showed the body of victim being set on fire in the middle of the road amid loud sloganeering by the mob.

Officials said the incident disturbed law and order in the hill town and additional police force was called in to restore normalcy in the tourist resort,

Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province Ali Amin Gandapur has sought a report from the provincial police chief and directed the Inspector General of Police to take emergency steps to control the situation and urged people to remain calm.
