PM Modi to lay foundation stone of projects worth over Rs 50,700 cr in MP

An official said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would visit Madhya Pradesh on Thursday and lay the groundwork for projects worth more than Rs 50,700 crore at an event in Bina.

Among the initiatives are a petrochemical complex at the Bina refinery and ten additional industrial projects spread around the state.MP Assembly elections are scheduled at the end of the year.

According to the official, the new projects in Madhya Pradesh would offer a significant boost to the state's industrial growth.

Chief Minister and DMK leader MK Stalin slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for making a 'Sanatan Dharma' comment by Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin into a controversy, labelling the party a "expert in diverting real issues."

CM Stalin also asked the DMK party cadre in a letter to grasp the BJP's "motive" and not distract from the actual concerns.

Stating that "we do not need to make it mandatory," Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday said if manufacturers want to be in the competition, they "have to make six airbags" as people are cautious now.

Addressing the 63rd Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) annual session in the national capital, Gadkari said "People are cautious now. Whichever economic model has six airbags, people will prefer to buy that car. We do not need to make it mandatory. It is the manufacturers who have to decide".

He further said, "Everyone is making it, we do not need to make it mandatory. Those who do not want to do it, are facing problems as far as their sale is concerned. If they want to be in the competition, they have to make six airbags. If they do not want it, it is their problem."

India slashes solar imports from China as domestic manufacturing thrives

In contrast to global trends, India experienced a significant 76% decline in solar module imports from China during the first half of 2023, reflecting New Delhi's firm commitment to self-sufficiency in solar manufacturing, according to a new report released on Thursday.

Year on year, India's solar module imports from China fell from 9.8 GW in the first half of 2022 to 2.3 GW in the same time in 2023, according to a research by global energy think group Ember.

This strategic move, together with the introduction of tariffs, demonstrates India's intention to reduce its reliance on imports while prioritising the development of indigenous manufacturing capability.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has requested that the Union government declare the Himachal Pradesh calamity a national disaster.

CM Sukhu stated that he raised this issue with the Prime Minister during the G20 dinner.

He also wanted a special state gift.

"The state government is continuously demanding the central government that the disaster here should be declared a national disaster. Also, the Central Government should give a special relief package to Himachal, but till now both demands have been ignored," CM Sukhu said.

Money trail clearly seen, says Andhra CID on Chandrababu Naidu's arrest

Amid protests over the arrest of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu, the Additional DG of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Wednesday said the money trail is "very clearly seen" adding that it is a very clear case of government funds transferred and the project of purpose never happened.

"In this case, a government corporation was formed and it was exclusively formed for this purpose of skill development and the proposal was moved by some private individuals...The money trail is very clearly seen," Additional DG of CID Sanjay told ANI. 

In the midst of protests over the arrest of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu, the Additional Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said on Wednesday that the money trail is “very clearly seen,” adding that it is a clear case of government funds transferred and the project of purpose never occurred.

“In this case, a government corporation was formed and it was exclusively formed for this purpose of skill development and the proposal was moved by some private individuals…The money trail is very clearly seen,” Additional DG of CID Sanjay told ANI.

Further, DIG Sanjay said, “You see the role of the ED also in this when they moved in and arrested a few people. So this is a very clear case of government money being transferred and the project itself never happened… How the money went into shell companies and all, is again part of the investigation. So further investigation will reveal the exact end-to-end tie-ups.”

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court in Vijayawada sentenced Chandrababu Naidu to 14 days in judicial prison on Sunday, September 23, concerning an alleged Skill Development Corporation fraud.

Earlier, TDP workers protested in Chittoor on Monday over the arrest and judicial detention of the TDP chairman in the alleged skill development issue.
