Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli Likely To Announce Retirement After T20 World Cup 2024: Report
Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli played their last T20I against Afghanistan in 2024 after the T20 World Cup 2022 which was played in Australia.
New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India have announced the squad for T20 World Cup 2024 where Rohit Sharma will lead the team and experienced batter Virat Kohli will play his anchor role in the marquee event which will be played in the USA and West Indies. Now, there are reports that this will be the last T20I stint for both batters.
As per the BCCI sources of sportstak, this will be Kohli and Rohit’s last assignment in the T20I format.
Both Kohli and Rohit have played 151 and 117 T20I where they scored 3974 and 4037 runs respectively. Both of them played just one T20I series after India’s loss in T20 World Cup 2022.
Team India will play their World Cup 2024 opener clash against Ireland. The men in blue are placed in Group A with arch-rivals Pakistan, USA, Canada and Ireland. After finishing the group stage the team will play super 8.
Apart from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant has also made his international comeback after a long break because of injuries in a near fatal accident while going driving back to home from New Delhi.
Mohammed Shami will miss the series as the pacer is on a road to recovery and in his absence Mohammed Siraj will open the bowling attack with ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah.
Shivam Dube has also been included in the squad for his performance in the last T20I series against Afghanistan.
