It has been six years since actor Sonali Bendre revealed her cancer diagnosis. Throughout this time, the 49-year-old has openly discussed her illness and recovery journey, inspiring many and giving hope to fellow survivors. The actress, who is currently making waves with her ZEE 5 Global series The Broken News 2, has recently spoken to India.com and talked about her cancer diagnosis. She also shared how she coped with the life-changing event and the impact it had on her health post-surgery.

Sonali Bendre on Her Journey of Beating Cancer

Sonali opened up about her cancer diagnosis and the mindset she had while going through the process. She said, “As soon as I came to know it was devasting and the reaction was not to belief it and think that the reports got mixed up. I was hoping that they will call up and say that your reports got mixed up, I was really hoping for that. And the next stage was that thinking it was a nightmare and it will all gone, but as the days progressed, I believed that you have to accept it, this is the truth. The more you accept it, the less you have to deal with it, so I figured that you needed to deal with it.”

Sonali Bendre on Embracing Her 23-Inch Scar Post-Surgery

The Hum Sath-Sath Hain actress never fails to impress us with her positive attitude and the zest for life. She revealed how challenging things were post-surgery and how it affected her body. Sonali discussed, “There was that realness that one would always say that I am gone grow old and etc, but this journey made me aware what growing old was like. Post-surgery I felt like my body was 90-years old, my body was literally like a body of 90-year-old woman. Then slowly I had to bring it back.”

She also expressed how the concept of beauty transformed throughout this journey and added, “I learnt to embrace my imperfections and the fact that I have a scar, but my doctor said you’ll be alive and that’s the fact that yeah I have a scar, huge scar whatever but at least I am alive so, I am grateful for that.”

In 2018, Sonali was diagnosed with stage four metastatic cancer, leading her to undergo treatment in New York. Remarkably, she conquered the disease by 2021. Since her recovery, she has become a vocal advocate for cancer awareness and support.

With the release of The Broken News 2, Sonali, who is renowned for her roles in films like Sarfarosh, Hum Saath-Saath Hain and Duplicate, among others, continues to pursue her successful acting career with resilience and strength.
