‘Sanju Samson Will Have Good Run In T20 World Cup 2024’, Reckons Kumar Sangakkara

New Delhi: Rajasthan Royals director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara opens up on Sanju Samson’s batting in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 which will be played in USA and West Indies later this year in June.

Sangakkara reckoned that it’s upto skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid how they see the combination for the marquee event.

Samson is currently in lethal form in the ongoing IPL he scored 471 runs in 11 outings. Considering his form the Sri Lankan legend said that he will be the first-choice wicketkeeper batter for India.

“It’s really up to Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma and how they see the combination,” Sangakkara told reporters.

“But he has made his case, so hopefully he’ll have a good run in the World Cup.”

On the other hand, Rishabh Pant who is also part of India’s squad in the marquee event is currently in the lethal form he scored 413 runs in the 12 outings. On comparison with Pant, Sangakkara said that Samson will hold the edge by having a lot of clarity.

“With Sanju, the biggest thing about this season for him is having a lot of clarity about the way he should bat,” former Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batsman Sangakkara said.

“There are certain stages of the game that he seems to lose a bit of concentration, which we’ve addressed from past seasons,” he added.

“He’s changed his mindset about the importance of rest and recovery, rather than just training all the time and being tired mentally and physically.”
