Alka Yagnik, a leading playback singer in Bollywood, disclosed that she has been diagnosed with a rare ‘sensory neural nerve sensory loss.’ The ‘sudden major setback’ had taken her by surprise, she added, and she’s still getting over it. The renowned singer thanked her friends and fans on Monday in a lengthy Instagram post, explaining why she had been ‘missing in action’ and requesting their ‘support and understanding.’
Alka Yagnik revealed that a few weeks prior, she had stepped off an aircraft and found herself completely devoid of hearing. Her unusual sensory hearing loss was discovered during a medical examination. The singer said that she was unprepared for this diagnosis. She also advised her young coworkers to exercise caution when listening to loud music or using headphones.
The elaborate caption on Instagram read, “It has been diagnosed by my docs as a rare sensory neural nerve hearing loss, due to a viral attack…This sudden, major setback has caught me completely unawares. As I attempt to come to terms with it please keep me in your prayers. For my fans and young colleagues, I would add a word of caution regarding exposure to very loud music and headphones (sic).”
Concluding her note, the singer requested support from her well-wishers and said, “One day, I wish to share the health perils of my professional life. With all your love and support I am hoping to recalibrate my life and come back to you soon. Your support and understanding will mean the world to me in this critical hour… (sic)”
