The 24 Most-Watched Sporting Events of 2023 Clearly Show What Americans Truly Love

It’s never been more clear what sport Americans truly love.
Sports Media Watch released its list of the most-watched sporting events through the first half of 2023 and football dominated the list.

The first 23 events on the list were in football -- with 22 of them being NFL football -- led by the Super Bowl that averaged 114.21 million viewers. The AFC and NFC Championship Games followed at 53.12 million and 47.50 million viewers, respectively.
The NFL had the first 21 events on the list, including the non-playoff, non-primetime Week 18 match-up between the Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders.
The most-watched sporting event outside the NFL was the College Football National Championship game between the Georgia Bulldogs and TCU Horned Frogs on Jan. 8 that was 22nd on the list with 17.22 million viewers.
The first non-football event came at No. 24 with the NCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship game. At 14.69 million average viewers, that was also the lowest-rated Men’s Basketball National Championship game in recorded history.

The other sports leagues made their way onto the list after No. 25 with the Kentucky Derby (26th, 14.44 million viewers), the NBA Finals series-clincher (28th, 13.70 million), and The Masters (30th, 12.06 million) all sneaking into the top 30.
