‘The next World Cup will be in India only’: Former India opener backs Varun Chakaravarthy to fire consistently after T20I series vs Bangladesh

New Delhi: Former India opener Aakash Chopra believes Varun Chakaravarthy may return to India’s T20I setup for the next T20 World Cup, praising the mystery spinner’s impressive performance through the 2d T20I against Bangladesh in Delhi on October 9.

The Men in Blue set the Bangla Tigers a daunting target of 222 runs after batting first, with Chakravarthy contributing significantly by taking 2 wickets for just 19 runs in four overs, helping restrict the visitors to 135/9 and securing an 86-run victory.

In a video on his YouTube channel, Chopra suggested that Varun Chakravarthy can have secured a spot in India’s long-term plans following his impressive performances through the primary two T20Is against Bangladesh.

“Varun Chakaravarthy, is he back, big question, because he's making a return after three years. In the primary match, he almost definitely got one or two wickets on balls that weren’t wicket-taking, which is nice. He picked up three wickets. In the 2d match, he in fact bowled better than the primary match,” he said.

“He bowled with more self belief and greater consistency. He continuously bowled through the three stumps. The signs to this point are superb. Why do it could possibly be easy to definitely play Varun Chakaravarthy? After two years, the next World Cup could be in India handiest,” the previous India opener added.

Chakravarthy, who had fallen out of favor following lackluster performances through the 2021 T20 World Cup through the UAE, made a remarkable comeback to the Indian team through the continuing series against Bangladesh, taking 5 wickets through the primary two matches.
