Tovino Thomas’ 2023 survival drama, 2018: Everyone Is A Hero has been selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars 2024. The Jude Anthany Joseph’s directorial revolves around the devastating Kerala floods in 2018. During a recent interaction with Rediff.com, the filmmaker was asked about the team’s way forward, keeping in view that the Oscars demands a lot of lobbying. Reacting to this, Jude Anthany Joseph revealed that his producer has a production office in Los Angeles and they are going to try their best. He further added that even without the lobbying, he feels they will bring the Oscar home.

Re-releasing 2018

Jude Anthany Joseph was also questioned about re-releasing the film following the Oscar buzz. Reacting to this, the director revealed that they might in fact re-release the movie, but only if there is no breach of contract with their OTT partner SonyLIV.

The filmmaker further asserted that although 2018 was released worldwide, they were unable to put the drama in some of the markets such as Russia and China. He also informed that they were recently approached to release 2018 in these countries.

Where did the idea for 2018 come from?

Jude Anthany Joseph further revealed that he got the idea for 2018 from his personal experience. He stated that he himself was a victim of the 2018 Kerala floods, “My house was flooded and I lost a lot of things. I moved to my sister’s home and was depressed for a while. Then, ironically, an NGO called Bodhini, approached me to make a short video that would offer hope to people, some of whom were suicidal.”
