US: 2 Indian students suffer mysterious death in Connecticut

A family member stated on Monday that two students—one from Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, and the other from Wanaparthy, Telangana—were discovered dead in their Connecticut accommodations recently.

The students were identified as Nikesh (21) from Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, and G Dinesh (22) from Wanaparthy, Telangana.

The Telangana student’s family is unaware of the reason behind both his and his roommate’s deaths.

“Dinesh’s friends who live in a nearby room called us on Saturday night and informed us about his death and his roommate’s. We have no clue as to how he died,” Dinesh’s family members told the media.

A family member claims that on December 28, 2023, Dinesh left for further education in Hartford, Connecticut in the US, while Nikesh arrived a few days later.

They were, incidentally, roommates after moving to the US and were mutual friends of some common pals.

A member of Dinesh’s family highlighted that they had requested the intervention of Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy and Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to bring back Dinesh’s body.

MLA Wanaparthy Megha Reddy has also contributed to the effort to brink back Dinesh’s body and has called the family members of the student and comforted them.

Further, a member of Dinesh’s family said they had no contact with Nikesh’s family members as the two went to the US only recently.

There is currently no information available on Nikesh with the Srikakulam district administration.

According to DSP K Balaraju of the Srikakulam Police Special Branch, Nikesh and his family members were not even the subject of information shared with the district collectorate.

Expressing anguish at the death of the student, Wanaparthy MLA T Megha Reddy met the student’s family members in Wanaparthy town and extended his condolences.

The MLA spoke to Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy with reference to bringing the student’s dead body to India from the United States.

In a favorable response, the Chief Minister said plans would be made to return the body to its home country.
