Want a New Job? You May Be Required to Know ChatGPT to Land It

A new survey points to an alarming new hiring trend.

Though artificial intelligence has been around for years, the world began to change dramatically when OpenAI launched ChatGPT in November. The Large Language Model (LLM) generative AI chatbot has spawned a number of competitors, from Google’s Bard to Microsoft’s Bing AI.

And though ChatGPT might have started as something of a fun gimmick, it has quickly proven its usefulness across fields – as a baseline, it can write articles, streamline research and code.

Its power as a professional tool is not one that business leaders are overlooking.

An April survey of 1,187 business leaders by ResumeBuilder found that, of the 92% of companies who are currently hiring, 91% are looking with workers with experience on ChatGPT. 30% of these businesses said the need for workers fluent in the AI model is “urgent”; 75% said hiring AI prompt engineers will lead to the elimination of other jobs.

A quarter of the 29% of companies who are hiring AI prompt engineers said that starting salaries will be in excess of $200,000.

Around 66% of these companies are convinced that having a workforce that understands ChatGPT will give them a significant competitive advantage.

“The internet is now populated with plenty of tutorials to build ChatGPT skills,” ResumeBuilder’s chief career advisor Stacie Haller said. “Those who take advantage of learning this new technology will pull ahead of other candidates. ChatGPT expertise needs to be listed on resumes along with other professional and hard skills and should also be mentioned in one’s cover letter.”
