WATCH | PM Modi and Italy’s Giorgia Meloni hold bilateral meet on sidelines of G20 Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian PM Giorgia Meloni on Saturday held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Delhi and agreed that India and Italy would keep working together to enhance global prosperity.

Earlier, the Italian Prime Minister arrived in the national capital for the G20 Summit and was welcomed by State Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Shobha Karandlaje.

“I had an excellent meeting with PM @GiorgiaMeloni. Our talks covered sectors such as trade, commerce, defence, emerging technologies and more. India and Italy will keep working together for global prosperity,” PM Modi posted on X (formerly Twitter) soon after he wrapped up the meeting.

With the Ukraine conflict casting a shadow over the G20 summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday called upon the leaders of the influential bloc to overcome the current “trust deficit” and collectively find “concrete” solutions to turbulent global economy, terrorism and management of food, fuel, and fertilisers.

In his opening remarks at the summit, PM Modi said as the president of the G20, India invites the “entire world to come together and, first and foremost, transform this global trust deficit into global trust and confidence”.

The prime minister made the comments in presence of US President Joe Biden, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and other leaders of the bloc.
