A diva in herself and an extremely talented actress, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan turns a year older today as she celebrates her 50th birthday on Wednesday, 1 November. In a career spanning almost three decades and beginning as a model, the actress made it to her first screen with Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar. Since then, Aishwarya has undoubtedly gifted the industry with some of the most amazing films with unforgettable performances. Being an epitome of beauty, the actress has captivated the hearts of millions with her stunning looks and acting prowess. Today, as the former Miss World tunes in her 50th birthday, let’s take a look at some of her remarkable performances to date.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan‘s Best performances

Iruvar: At a time when not many actors got to play double roles in their maiden films, Aishwarya Rai managed to play the dual characters of Pushpavalli and Kalpana in her debut film with Mani Ratnam’s Tamil political drama Iruvar. The actress received wide appreciation for her performance.

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam: One of the most popular and recognised films of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Bollywood, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil de Chuke Sanam features the actress alongside actor Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn. Playing the role of a traditional Gujarati girl who falls in love with Sameer (Salman Khan), only to be later forced into marriage with Vanraj (Ajay Devgn), the way she efficiently portrayed the dynamics of her character left the audience impressed.

Taal: Another of her recognised performances was in Subhash Ghai’s 1999 film Taal. Playing a single girl who falls in love with a wealthy man, the actress did a great job in making her character memorable for all.

Devdas: Once again teaming up with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan impressed the audience by portraying the role of Paro in the 2002 Hindi language period romantic drama film Devdas. Featuring opposite Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit who played the roles of Devdas and Chandramukhi respectively, it is needless to say that Aishwarya Rai gave a power-packed performance. Her grace and energy were impeccable in the iconic Dola Re Dola song.

Chokher Bali: Apart from Bollywood, Aishwarya Rai has also proved her mettle in regional films as she appeared in the 2003 Bengali language film, Chokher Bali. The actress played the role of a young widow who goes on to have an affair with a married man after the death of her husband. While the film won several accolades including 3 National Film Awards, it also got Aishwarya Rai Bachchan the much-needed recognition for her performance as Binodini.

Guru: Another flawless performance of the diva is counted from the 2007 film Guru. Directed by Mani Ratnam, Aishwarya featured alongside her husband Abhishek Bachchan in the film loosely based on the life of business tycoon Dhirubhai Ambani. While Abhishek played the lead role, the actress also left an impact through her strong screen presence.

Jodhaa Akbar: Aishwarya Rai became a part of the historical film Jodhaa Akbar, directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar. As she played the role of Jodha Bai, the wife to Mughal emperor Akbar played by Hrithik Roshan, the 2008 film not only won two National Film Awards but also got the actress a lot of appreciation for her role.

Ponniyin Selvan: I: Aishwarya Rai once again proved her acting talent recently in the Tamil language historical action drama, Ponniyin Selvan: I. Playing the role of Nandini, the actress’ performance in the film based on Kalki’s epic saga of a Chola Dynasty left a prominent mark on the viewers.
