That brings us to the end of our coverage of Day 10 of the Asian Games, and we surely are in the business end of the 19th edition of the continental event now!


What a day it turned out to be for the Indian contingent today, winning two gold, as many silver along with five bronze medals to take their overall medal count to 69!


India are one medal away from equalling their best-ever performance at the Asian Games — 70 medals in Jakarta 2018. And the way they’re motoring along at the moment, ‘Mission Sau Paar’ might just become a reality!

Narender Berwal bows out with bronze in the men’s 92kg category in the final event of the day for Indian athletes.


He suffers a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Kazakhstan’s Kamshybek Kunkabayev to sign off at the third place.


Earlier today, Sachin had lost his men’s 57kg quarter-final bout against China’s Lyu Ping.


Ping won the opening round 4-1 before the referee stopped the contest due to an accidental clash of heads. The Chinese pugilist was ultimately declared winner on points.

Praveen Chitharavel wins bronze in the men’s triple jump final with a best effort of 16.68m in his very first attempt. Abdulla Aboobacker narrowly misses out on the podium, finishing fourth with a best effort of 16.62m.


China complete a one-two finish with Yaming Zhu (17.13m) and Yaoqing Fang (16.93m) winning gold and silver respectively.

GOLD FOR PARUL CHAUDHARY! She manages to surge ahead in the last stretch of the women’s 5000m event and ends up collecting the 14th gold medal of the Hangzhou Games for Team India!

Japan's Ririka Hironaka was in the lead and was on the verge of going past the finish line first when Chaudhary's sudden acceleration in the final straight caught her by surprise. What a dramatic finish that turned out to be!

Bahrain complete a one-two finish in the event, with Abderrahman Alsaleck (48.04s) and Bassem Hemeida (48.52s) winning gold and silver respectively. China’s Zhiyu Xie (49.16s) collects bronze.

Shankar had finished on top of the table on Monday, but hasn’t quite fired in any of the four events that have taken place so far today. His only top three finish today came in discus throw, where he finished third.


Japan’s Yuma Maruyama is a little over 100 points behind him, and could end up snatching the silver from him in 1500m, the final event that will decide the medal winners.

Asian Games 2023 Day 10 LIVE Updates: India added seven more medals to their tally on Day 9 of Hangzhou 2022 to take the medal tally to 60. Three silver medals came through Parul Chaudhary in women’s 3000m steeplechase, Ancy Sojan in women’s long jump, and the India mixed 4x400m relay team. Four bronze medals were won by Suthirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee in the table tennis women’s doubles, women’s speedskating 3000m relay team, men’s speedskating 3000m relay team, and Priti Lamba in women’s 3000m steeplechase.

India are now 10 medals short of their record tally of 70 which they achieved at the 2018 Games in Indonesia. With medals at stake today in athletics and bronze, India will look to inch closer to the previous record. Also starting their campaign on Tuesday are the Indian men’s kabaddi and cricket teams who would want to finish with gold medals at the event.
