In a shocking development, popular Bengali actress and Trinamool Congress MP, Mimi Chakraborty, has resigned as a parliamentarian, stating that “politics is not her cup of tea” and that she doesn’t intend to be a part of any political engagements anymore. The Jadavpur MP handed over her resignation to West Bengal chief minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee on Thursday, while also sharing her concerns. During this time, Mimi also expressed her unhappiness with the local leadership in her constituency. After submitting her resignation, the actress spoke to the media and shared that the TMC supremo has assured her of taking care of everything, further adding that her resignation has not been accepted yet.

“I have informed Didi (Mamata Banerjee) about the problems that I have faced. She listened patiently, and I hope she will take a decision soon, Mimi said on Thursday.

Mimi Chakraborty says “politics is not my cup of tea”

While talking to the media, Mimi further said, “Politics is not my cup of tea. You have to promote someone if you are helping someone. I had to often hear that I failed to deliver and that I was not available for people. Many also pointed fingers at my attendance in Parliament.”

Further, she went on to explain how she has equal responsibilities as a politician and as an actor, adding that she has always tried to reach out to people and help them.

Mimi Chakraborty alleges “mental torture” within the party

According to a News18 report, Mimi Chakraborty has also alleged “mental torture” and “harassment” within the party.


On being asked why she hasn’t tendered her resignation to the Lok Sabha Speaker, Chakraborty said, “Once I get a nod from the party, I will submit it to the Speaker.”

Having been part of the Bengali film industry for several years now, Mimi Chakraborty joined politics in 2019 and contested from the Jadavpur Loksabha Constituency in the 2019 Indian general election as a TMC candidate.

Known for working in films like Gangster, Villain, Bojhena Shey Bojhena, Total Dadagiri, and many other Bengali films, Mimi’s last big release was Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee’s directorial ‘Raktabeej‘.
