CNN Drops the Ball in Latest Comments on Bud Light Controversy

In a segment following up on the recent Bud Light controversy, CNN National Correspondent Ryan Young took to the streets to record the varied opinions on Anheuser-Busch’s  (BUD) - Get Free Report contentious promotional video featuring social media star and transgender woman Dylan Mulvaney.

The segment was meant to prove that even in America’s country music capital Nashville, folks are split on the issue of transgender representation. But sadly, the report may have proved that the same split may be happening in the newsroom.

Young used incorrect pronouns for Mulvaney, referring to her as a “he” at least two times during the news broadcast. The act is known as "misgendering." Often it's done by accident, but it's sometimes used as a means to refuse acknowledgment of someone's gender identity.

In a professional setting, using someone's correct pronouns is as important as calling them by the correct name. To purposefully misgender Mulvaney on national television is not a good look for the giant news corporation.

There's been no comment from camp CNN regarding the incorrect use of Dylan's pronouns on the air, so it's difficult to know if it was a mistake or intentional. But either way, plenty of CNN viewers and readers have taken to social media to ask the giant news network to correct the mistake by offering an apology. Some have even pointed out how disruptive Young might find it were he to be referred to as "she" on air.
