Delhi Rejoices As Early Morning Rain Brings Relief From Heat, Check IMD Forecast

New Delhi: Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) received a heavy downpour accompanied by a thunderstorm in the early hours of Friday, a day after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced that the southwest monsoon is expected to batter the national capital in the next two-three days. The maximum temperature plunged to 35.4 degrees Celsius, approx—two degrees below the normal temperature after a heavy downpour.

Delhi Rain: Temperature Fell Below Normal After 46 Days.

Notably, the temperature in the national capital fell below normal after 46 days. The last time the mercury dipped was on May 12, when the maximum temperature was 38.8 degrees Celsius. The daytime temperature continuously stayed above normal from May 13 to June 26.

Delhi Rain: IMD Forecast

As the month of June concludes, Delhi gets eagerly drenched by the long-awaited monsoons, anxiously craved after the gruelling summer heat. This year, the respite they offered was a bit late than it’s typical time. The city is all set to embrace the downpour in the coming week, anticipating even more intense showers over the weekend marking the inception of the monsoon officially. The weather forecast department has released an ‘orange’ alert – a heads-up for the public about moderate to heavy rains this Saturday. Simultaneously, the ‘yellow’ alert also forewarns of some scattered showers in the days to come next week.

“The conditions for further advance of southwest Monsoon into some more parts of Rajasthan are likely to become favourable, parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, some more parts of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Chandigarh and some parts of Haryana, some more parts of Punjab, remaining parts of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu during next 2-3 days,” IMD said in its bulletin on Thursday.
Light to moderate showers are expected today. IMD has also predicted moderate to heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday.

Delhi Rain: Temperature

Thursday’s peak temperature didn’t quite reach Wednesday’s, falling short by a chilly 3.6 degrees Celsius. Despite the dip, Delhi still faced a sweltering low of 28.6 degrees Celsius, a degree above normal. Experiencing the heat felt a tad less blistering as the heat index dropped to 47 degrees compared to a stifling 52 just the day before.

The mercury is expected to hit a high of 36 degrees on both Friday and Saturday, while the following days until July 7th are set to hover around a steady 33 to 34 degrees Celsius.
